25 Years of Neopets "Quests" Promotion

TNT has posted a pretty sizable update over on their brand portal blog outlining a bunch of new promotions involving Premium, Neocash purchases, Monopoly preorders, and Faerie Fragments play. It's a lot to take in, so buckle up!

First, here's a quick overview of the "quests" you can participate in beginning today, March 14th through March 31st 11:59 PM NST.

Premium Subscriptions
Firstly, all new and existing Premium subscribers on the monthly plan will receive a Spring Faellie. All you need to do is be signed up!

All new and existing Premium subscribers on the annual plan will receive a Black Long Sleeved Cape or a Neopia Central Scene Stamp (50% shot of either). All you need to do is be signed up! Five random annual subscribers will receive a Super Attack Pea.

Codes to redeem these prizes will be sent via email within "4 weeks after the campaign ends".

Also note, the images above say "NEW SUBSCRIBERS", but the fine print in the post says all existing subscribers will be getting these too!

If you're new to Premium, check out our extensive guide:

Neocash Purchases
There's a promotion for purchasing Neocash directly through Neopets.

If you purchase either $5 or $10 in Neocash, you'll receive a Royal Candychan.

If you purchase either $20, $50, or $100 Neocash, you'll receive a Meridell Castle Stamp.

Note, you can receive both prizes above, but you'll only receive them once—in other words, you'll get one Royal Candychan even if you buy $5 in Neocash twice.

Codes to redeem these prizes will be sent via email within "4 weeks after the campaign ends".

Monopoly Pre-Orders
As we detailed in the post below, if you pre-order a new Neopets Monopoly set, you'll receive a Super Bright Rainbow Pool Stamp. (Along with a brand new themed stamp and avatar, but those come as codes in the sets themselves.)

NeoPass
All users who link their Neopets.com account to NeoPass by March 31st will receive a 10th Birthday Illusen Birthday Book. (It's unclear if all existing Neopians who have linked their account will receive this.)

Also, TNT has posted a NeoPass overview update detailing some stats on NeoPass usage. We're delighted to see how few problems users encounter these days:

Faerie Fragments
Any user who downloads Faerie Fragments, links their game to NeoPass for the first time, and passes Level 10, will receive a Faerie Paint Brush. (Existing players won't receive this according to the post.)

Five new or existing players who passes Level 100 in the game will receive a Super Attack Pea.

The post also details that any player who passes Level 650 and Level 700 will receive a stamp and avatar respectively, but those are normal prizes and have been available for a few weeks now! (And they'll continue to be available later.)

If you're new to Faerie Fragments, check out our guide:

Grand Prizes
Finally, anyone who completes the tasks above will be entered to win one of the following items:

  • x1 Jumbo Plushie Shoryu (serial number 09)
  • x1 Upper Deck Celebration Box
  • x5 Neopets E-shop coupons (US$25x 2)
  • x10 Blind Box Plush

Each task you complete above counts as an "entry" to this prize pool.

Phew
Phew. 😮‍💨 In summary, TNT is running a promotion to have you do a variety of things, some paid some not, that will give you bonus prizes between now and March 31st. Here's a summary of what you can do to earn a prize:

  • Have an active Premium subscription
  • Purchase Neocash directly through Neopets.com
  • Pre-order Neopets Monopoly
  • Connect your Neopets.com account to NeoPass for the first time
  • Download and play Faerie Fragments up to Level 100 (the Level 650 and 700 prizes are not time limited)

5 people get a SuAP. I wonder if that's really enough to get people to buy premium...whoever gets it will have their day made for sure.
by imlostnthought on March 14, 2025 10:56 AM NST
So this is what it is... Is it me, or is this a big pile of dung? That's not completing quests! That's trying to get us to spend a lot of money on things in order to get some extra goodies, some of them not even THAT rare.. Or to force us to play those mobile games that I still have no interest in...

I mean, good for anyone who wants to do this, but I think I'm just going to shrug and pretend this isn't actually a thing that is happening..
by apophis324 on March 14, 2025 10:57 AM NST
To be clear, despite the blog post using Quest Log designs and a banner appearing earlier on the Quest Log page, this actually doesn't have anything to do with the Quest Log feature.
by dave on March 14, 2025 10:58 AM NST JN Staff
The Neopets Monopoly costs $70. Why would I ever buy it, let alone pre-order it?
by bacon on March 14, 2025 10:58 AM NST
@bacon: The Monopoly set is actually selling extremely well. They've almost sold through half the sets. There's a market for it, I guess.
by dave on March 14, 2025 11:01 AM NST JN Staff
They have gone full P2W with this 'quest' stuff. I honestly hope it backfires a little bit because this is just to much.
by rayen on March 14, 2025 11:05 AM NST
I just have to accept that the Neopets team is essentially never going to have the money to update the website in any major way beyond continuing the status quo. But they will always have the money to create new merch opportunities.
by bacon on March 14, 2025 11:15 AM NST
I bought the Monopoly set and am excited to play it! I don't mind spending money to support Neopets. Not everyone can afford it, but those who can should make the investment...if they enjoy the game. And I do!
by rumi on March 14, 2025 11:16 AM NST
Gotta milk Neopets for all that it is worth before Dom pulls the plug.
I give Neopets 3~5 years more before it dies. Finally, to be honest.

I hope JellyNeo does not closes when Neopets goes down under. I will miss the good times.
by iara0 on March 14, 2025 11:17 AM NST
here was me thinking we were overdue for some new quests in the log, and to my surprise we still are.
by bedomi on March 14, 2025 11:24 AM NST
@bedomi: Yeah! Didn't they promise at the inception of the daily quests that they'd add more variety, like play with a toy? I've run out of ways I can customise my pets without repeatedly giving and removing a stupid hat!
by apophis324 on March 14, 2025 11:34 AM NST
So, one giant advertisement, basically. Yeah, nope. I'll pass. The only thing that even caught my eye was the Royal Candychan but I can buy that so.... I'll just be ignoring this and working on pet goals.
by claytonskitten on March 14, 2025 11:36 AM NST
i get that it's how they keep the lights on, but they're practically begging on their hands and knees for new premium subs and then wonder why people are so jaded by it. it's lame seeing them try so hard to entice people to buy a subscription for a free website.
by darlingsenpai on March 14, 2025 11:53 AM NST
Five new or existing players who passes Level 100 in the game will receive a Super Attack Pea.

I wonder If that means that If I am at for example level 666, reach level 700 and restart from scratch to level 100 I'll be able to claim that SuAP....
by maninshi on March 14, 2025 11:54 AM NST
Welcome to the Pay to Win Neopets Era! This is not very exciting. They are just promoting stuff to make us spend more and more money
by douglasgs0 on March 14, 2025 12:00 PM NST
Licensing the IP for merchandise *makes* TNT money. I'm not interested in 90% of their merch partnerships, but if it's helping their longstanding financial issues and pulling older milennials back to the site, then good?

The list of things they can fix/improve on the site is infinite and it still frustrates me that many of them are easy fixes that should not take literal decades (comma-separated numerals everywhere, come ON, we took the babyiest baby step here!!) but I don't feel like their efforts to make cashflow sustainable are what's detracting from fixing those things. I blame the tiny team and lack of staff, which I assume can only be funded by more NC cash grabs and merch, so, okay.

It definitely feels like they're getting desperate, but I don't feel ~entirely~ neglected on the site side yet. (I like the Quest Log re-roll feature, for example.)

Anyway, most of this stuff doesn't interest me, but even if it's a lil bit pay-to-win, I think injecting more of these various NP items into the economy is ultimately good, and I'd rather end up buying a stamp from an NC-buying Neopian than a botter, I guess.

They're still gonna need to stamp out uncertainties about their card processing/buying on site system before I do that though. For now, I still prefer buying NC Cards from third-parties lol...
by kiriska on March 14, 2025 12:04 PM NST
I really am not a fan of how much TNT''ve been begging for money lately. Screams like desperation.
by fenix on March 14, 2025 12:04 PM NST
Especially since we've yet to see any actual sitewide improvements, like more pages converted to the ugly mobile layout, or features brought back like Bilge Dice.
by fenix on March 14, 2025 12:05 PM NST
People will inevitably hiss and howl on the boards about this being pay to play doom, and threaten all sorts of garbage. I just hope this generates enough $$ to keep the server from going offline forever.

Dom could have not bought the site and just let Jumpstart take it down. He admitted in AMA that it's still running at a loss. These fundraisers are clearly integral for the site to stay on.
by pancake on March 14, 2025 12:10 PM NST
Oh wow, another day of the new TNT making more disgustingly P2W moves, what a surprise!!!! 🤢🤢
by ferinsy on March 14, 2025 12:18 PM NST
These fundraisers are clearly integral for the site to stay on.

Okay but like.. they could've at LEAST let more people win a $25 coupon for merch. 17 users across the whole site win some merch/coupons and that's about it. At least the anniversary wheel let a good majority of people win discount codes.
by cuddlytoaster on March 14, 2025 12:19 PM NST
They should retroactively reward us for passing level 10. That’s crazy.
by sabrinatheecarpenter on March 14, 2025 12:19 PM NST
Ugh, and people are still giving them infinite money... If the overpriced jumbo plushies sold well and a Monopoly (that costs $20) can be sold by $70-80, why wouldn't they do more disgusting moves?

Capitalism at its finest. Hope they charge real money to just login into the game next, the P2W players kinda deserve it, I guess...
by ferinsy on March 14, 2025 12:20 PM NST
It's interesting that some people's response to TNT begging for money is to get angry. That's not my response at all. My response is to be afraid. If they are really struggling that hard for cash, that directly threatens the future of Neopets. I will throw whatever money I can afford to for the things I enjoy - Premium being the best value IMHO, and some of the merch is actually really good - for as long as I have to if it means keeping the site afloat.

I get that there's a bit of an unsavory taste to some of this. Especially the P2W things.

The thing that stands out most to me about this offering is the terrible communication around it. I would even go so far as to describe it as catastrophically bad. Calling these 'quests' is extremely confusing. If I hadn't read the JN article above, I would have been completely lost about what this is. We have the Quest Log, it has an 'Events' tab - I understandably assumed that some new quests would appear there at some point, and if we completed them within the timeframe we'd get prizes and maybe some bonuses.

Their webpage for this doesn't adequately convey that these... actions, activities, whatever are all there is to this 'quest' thing.
by neolodgeism on March 14, 2025 12:31 PM NST
@Fenix @Bacon. The site is losing money. Want Neopets to continue existing? Be grateful there are people paying for premium, NC and helping the site stay alive.

If you're not putting money into Neo, you have absolutely no right to moan about anything. Even if you are, it's clearly necessary for them to do whatever they need to, to keep the site alive.
by dynohawk on March 14, 2025 12:35 PM NST
@Ferinsy, honestly what the heck do you want? Without these measures the site will close down. Do you think these businesses run on thin air??
by dynohawk on March 14, 2025 12:36 PM NST
@dynohawk not being greedy as this. This is just disgusting, as I said. They're just doing despicable things to me, specially with the merch costing 3x+ the price of the same merch released by any other website/brand/artist.
by ferinsy on March 14, 2025 12:41 PM NST
Also, I'm clearly not grateful for people who fund Neopets. I'd rather if it was closed (I've been playing it since 2007) instead of being milked like this. It's sad and even lower than when the Scientology weirdos were running it. But oh well, it's being run by a cryptobro, so not that surprised about the current state of the site. I'm glad I moved to the other "Sub" petsite 10 years ago and just login on Neo when there's a plot or event going on...
by ferinsy on March 14, 2025 12:44 PM NST
These comments really bring me back to the Viacom days!
by dave on March 14, 2025 12:50 PM NST JN Staff
... So I'm guessing nothing for us non-Premium or NC Mall purchasing players?
by pikachu315111 on March 14, 2025 12:53 PM NST
Mmm I don't mind paying some for a game I enjoy, but especially giving out LE stamps for paying for site features is WAAAY too much pay2win for me. It gives users with real money to spend an unfair advantage imo. (I'm a premium user by the way, so while I'll probably get an item if I read this correctly, it feels unfair to people that play for free.)
by woolie on March 14, 2025 12:57 PM NST
I'd love to buy the Monopoly game, but $70 is a lot for someone on a fixed income. And why do we have to wait 4 weeks after the promotion ends to get our prizes?
by doggetts_back on March 14, 2025 12:57 PM NST
... So I'm guessing nothing for us non-Premium or NC Mall purchasing players?

I mean anyone can do the quests, just most of the quests involve spending money so that's up to you
by cuddlytoaster on March 14, 2025 12:59 PM NST
I supported new pets years ago when it was actually good. I bought their tamagotchi clone, I but multiple packs of the trading card game, I subscribe to the magazine, I even had a few of their plushies. But at least when all of this was going on, we were getting yearly plots, puzzles, and activities on the website.

Right now, they're asking us to help fund Neopets without a guarantee the website will get any new features beyond what's already there. Heck, the plot FROM LAST YEAR still isn't close to complete.
by bacon on March 14, 2025 12:59 PM NST
Apologies for all the typos above, I was using speech-to-text. My bad.
by bacon on March 14, 2025 1:00 PM NST
@bacon exactly! It's not worthy imo, the site is empty and the new plot is badly planned (and it's taking too long to be fixed, nobody is that interested anymore). I love to support games I play... When it's worthy. But supporting isn't paying 3x the price of a merch imo nor paying to get my stamp album filled. That's literally pay to win in my book. Sad.
by ferinsy on March 14, 2025 1:03 PM NST
I'd like to know exactly how people against this think TNT should be trying to make money. What's considered an "acceptable" way if more Premium perks isn't one? Because wasn't that a complaint before? That Premium offered too few perks and wasn't worth it spending $60/year?

Like it or not, Neopets is a business, not a charity, it's not like they can wave a magic wand and make more money out of thin air. And they can't exactly go back to the old days of the site being able to be sustained entirely on ads, sponsors, and Limited Too merchandise, either.

I know it's frustrating to see them not tackling all the bugs and such that a lot of hardcore users want them to fix, but I agree with kiriska that them introducing these new perks isn't detracting from the site. They still introduced the re-roll feature, they confirmed the Varwolf isn't going to be locked only to Premium (at least eventually), and they're still working on the plot.
by fluffymcgerbilpants on March 14, 2025 1:04 PM NST
well i played faerie fragments until lvl 700 already, so i guess that's one entry to the giveaway?? sure i'll take it lol. i don't think i can afford the price for the monopoly game rn even though i was looking forward to it. 65 Euros........ that's double the price of a regular monopoly set u__u even other branded ones are around 40 new.
by iloveeevee on March 14, 2025 1:05 PM NST
I have had Premium since the beginning, but even so, sheesh, I have to agree with what apophis324 posted at the top of this page.
by contessa on March 14, 2025 1:08 PM NST
When Neopets dies, I want you guys to blame nobody but yourselves for thinking that just throwing money at merchandise would help them. Never trust a cryptobro.

Remember: Neopets has been on borrowed time for a long time. Ever since Viacom came into the picture, and Neopets never recovered.
by iara0 on March 14, 2025 1:10 PM NST
Accidentally posted this on the wrong comment section initially, whoops!

They're making SuAP pay-to-play now? Ugh. I get that some of the ultra rare items are basically unobtainable, but tying its re-release to premium rubs me the wrong way and seems scummy.
by morganjoisle on March 14, 2025 1:11 PM NST
@fluffymcgerbilpants what's acceptable is having a Premium service that's worthy to support with actual things happening in the site. A plot per year, or at least one every other year and mini plots here and there. Revamping activities and making the whole site more accessible and more enjoyable to navigate (like, Wiz is literally worst than ever... probably to prevent autobuyers, but it has punished common users the most).

Like, just by having active events in the game instead of just "click once per day or you'll lose an avatar" would probably make people play (and pay) more. Their biggest issue imo is that they're aiming too much for revamping the site to the ugly new mobile look while trying to cashgrab the NC/merch addicts (overpriced Pro Max backgrounds, jumbo plushies, Monopoly) instead of releasing actual merch (like $25-ish plushies and decently priced vinyl figures) while making the site interesting enough for everyone to actually play it.
by ferinsy on March 14, 2025 1:16 PM NST
@iara0 P R E A C H ! He's probably just hoarding some money for his next attempt on a cashgrab (maybe selling coaching lessons or "how to get rich with ads?"), and people swear they're helping the site 😭😭
by ferinsy on March 14, 2025 1:20 PM NST
Man this all blows
by cool_bear2004 on March 14, 2025 1:26 PM NST
@ferinsy, go touch grass. "Disgusting" "Despicable". Like honestly, that's verbiage you want to use?

If you're not grateful and would rather it was closed, just leave the site. You're helpful to absolutely nobody.

All you people not contributing, continue to whine, it's crazy.
by dynohawk on March 14, 2025 1:35 PM NST
@fluffymcgerbilpants:
I'm fine with them doing Premium stuff, but I would like them also to do have non-paying stuff to. Preferably, have a *free* event for the site overall and then have all these Premium stuff as add-ons. Premium should be a "site enhancing" feature and not a "cool kidz club" necessarily.

Like for this stuff, at the very least do something with the normal Quest Log. Like we still have the "Event" tab which has been empty since its introduction. If we're going to have these 25th Anniversary Premium/NC special quests, also come up with 25th Anniversary quests /questlinefor all the players.

by jessicamichelle_ on March 14, 2025 1:43 PM NST
lol a suap is not p2w. most people will never obtain one at a price of 1b np. this is an opportunity to get that if you want to spend money. i really am not surprised but still disappointed in the reaction to this. of course they want to make money, it's a business!!! how much do you think servers and labor costs? lol idk man it seems like everyone thinks they're just money hungry when they're trying to keep a 25 year old browser game running for its fanbase... they've given sooooo much in the past few years and no one is ever happy....
by phersure on March 14, 2025 1:44 PM NST
Not happy with this, given the amount of money they've already had from me and the fact I can't order the Monopoly (just says it won't ship to my address) but I understand why they're doing it all.
by shakespeareofborg on March 14, 2025 1:49 PM NST
Not a fan of this but here’s my solution: just don’t participate

Go back to doing what yall were doing before, pay this no mind and you’ll be fine
by solarboyaaron on March 14, 2025 1:51 PM NST
I've been pretty unhappy about the way the handouts in the game have destroyed the actual game play of the website, and I've always been shouted down whenever I raise it. It's interesting when there's a way to give back that people are suddenly angry. I'm not saying people are WRONG, I get being happy for free stuff (when you're the one gaining), and I too think this should NOT have been called 'Quests' ('Rewards' is much more fitting) but people have been given a lot on site for nothing recently... I wouldn't quite call it P2W with how much handouts there have been.
by unipie on March 14, 2025 1:52 PM NST
Lmao at some of the people in the comments.
by horses_46569 on March 14, 2025 2:03 PM NST
Does anything in the Premium Quests say that one must buy an annual subscription? Could a monthly subscription work? I mean, yeah, it would cost a little, and maybe some trial members would like perks such as SSW enough to stick with it. I'm not excited about the quests so I also will not complete most of them. Good luck to those who can and do!
by oldawning on March 14, 2025 2:08 PM NST
I was excited to see the word quest advertisement, thinking it would have some cool story related missions that take us through Neopia or the void plot. It's all pay 2 win "missions" that basically begs for money, and not even thinly veiled at that just straight up begging. It's good for existing subscribers it gives them some extra neopoints, so I'm happy for those people.
by neopouet on March 14, 2025 2:53 PM NST
This is not neopets anymore.
by marduk on March 14, 2025 2:57 PM NST
I wanna ask everyone complaining about P2W... how exactly does one "win" Neopets?

As far as I'm concerned... the only people "winning" past and present were always the bots and scammers.
This RL money stuff is no different than those who had the "better internet" when everyone else had dialup, when those who had the "oldest" accounts were more privileged with retired items/trophies/avatars, those who had UCs could trade for the better UCs/Krawks/Draiks before they were buyable.
We are all old enough to support ourselves one way or another... Premium is a CHOICE and signing up for an account doesn't require payment/subscription!
Stop hating on people who are paying for YOUR free way to play.
by mzlish on March 14, 2025 3:14 PM NST
"Existing players won't receive this according to the post." That is absolutely wack and unfair. Some of us have been slogging through this game for weeks, and we're losing out as a result?
by blu on March 14, 2025 3:14 PM NST
so like... almost all of yall are upset in some way (afraid, angry, sad, etc) that they're heavily relying on paid products and yet the point that the later comments are making is that everyone else has the wrong emotional reaction.

it's all upset in the end. your stage of grief isn't more moral.

my stage of grief is "tired" i think.
by affluentia on March 14, 2025 3:15 PM NST
At first I thought they were going to give new subscribers a SuAP if they joined but then to see that only 5 will be selected....hard pass. Yeah, it might introduce a little bit into the economy but that not helpful.

smh @these comments...

A company is allowed to "ask" for money. Give them some money and receive some pixels. I think that's pretty fair.

Happy Pi Day, y'all.
by x_snake_man_x on March 14, 2025 4:04 PM NST
I've been a Premium member for over 18 years now but this absolutely disgusts me.
How ridiculously pay-to-win Neo is becoming, it literally makes me almost want to quit.

It wasn't bad enough they locked the new monopoly stamp behind a nearly-200-bucks paywall,
Now they're trying to buy new Premium members with the chance of SuAP?!
And why force people to go annual for Premium? Isn't monthly making them more money??
I don't want an annual subscription!!

And to call these "quests" when it's literally just "please throw your money at us"... Wow.

And as icing on the cake, the "all users who make it to level 700 in Faerie Fragments will win this avatar" even though it's been glitched for weeks and I've still yet to receive mine -_-
by biediep on March 14, 2025 4:06 PM NST
Where do I go to do these quests? From the news page it just takes me to another page that basically lists the same things as mentioned here.
by josie on March 14, 2025 4:09 PM NST
Any other Premium members getting NO perks at all?
by somedaysoon42 on March 14, 2025 4:16 PM NST
At least the extra stamp reward for Monopoly isn't as bad as I originally thought;
I was thinking of a really rare, expensive stamp but this one apparently was only under 1m to begin with so that's.. fine. Most of these rewards are not that rare or expensive aside from SuAP and at least they're only handing out 5. Still, announcing this right after the 165 bucks monopoly that comes with an exclusive stamp (one that there's only going to be 2000 of, at that) just rubbed me the wrong way and I lost my cool for a second

Also yea the banner is back up on the QL page now but it still takes me to an Error 404 site. They took it back down, then put it back up without fixing it? Lol.
by biediep on March 14, 2025 4:17 PM NST
Also yea the banner is back up on the QL page now but it still takes me to an Error 404 site. They took it back down, then put it back up without fixing it? Lol.

it should just take you to the news page with info about the quests. i got the 404 error earlier but they fixed it around 10:30 this morning
by cuddlytoaster on March 14, 2025 4:49 PM NST
Still getting the Error 404 page, and when I click the "Back" button it takes me to the generic Neopets homepage, not the one on actual Neopets where you see all your own pets. There is a button to "learn more" that just takes me back to the Error 404 page.
by biediep on March 14, 2025 4:52 PM NST
if you're still getting the 404 error it's your browser cache! I had the same thing, dumped my browser cache for just that page and refreshed and it worked.

I am confused where we're supposed to access the quest progress for these, especially as the neopets news update today just linked the article in two separate lines.

by wj_1987 on March 14, 2025 5:14 PM NST
I don't understand all the hate and vitriol. If you can't afford, that's totally fine - these are just some random items and doesn't impair your ability to engage with the site. Most of them are collector's items, so why do you really care?
I've been a premium member for 10 years - and very happy for it. It costs 50-70/year, which is honestly not very much (and they haven't even adjusted for inflation!). My Netflix subscription costs 2x more and I honestly don't spend more than an hour or two a week with Netflix, if at all sometimes. I for sure spend about an hour or two per week on Neopets, so quite frankly, for something that costs like 6 dollars a month, I'm happy to do it.

6 dollars a month - what can you even buy with that these days? Two coffees? Not even if you live in an expensive city. One breakfast side?

Personally I wish they would just rerelease retired NC mall items ... or rotate through them because there are so many great items that I would happily pay the dollar to buy.
by pleasechooseid on March 14, 2025 5:32 PM NST
Also to add, this site needs to make money otherwise it's gone forever. I've been on neopets for quite some time and I'm honestly really happy with the content.

I don't understand why people need to feel like the site needs to be free to be able to access all the content. Of course they need to make money to keep the lights on - and if it means needing more premium subscribers to pay 6 dollars a month for an annual subscription, then why not? I don't understand the hate at all.
by pleasechooseid on March 14, 2025 5:33 PM NST
I'd wager my life savings that in less than 2 years time, Neopets is no longer a site that's F2P while edging towards Pay to Win, but a Pay to Play site.
by curtiswright on March 14, 2025 5:36 PM NST
Everyone going on about tnt needing to do this because the sites struggling for cash, yet in the 25 years of the games lifespan, not a single dev team have thought to port neopets to a modern format for gaming and stuck with an html based site for two and a half decades...

This game should've been ported to console in the mid to late 2000's, it should've been made into a phone app by the mid 2010's - but instead, every dev team continued to stoke a dying flame with spaghetti code rather than tear it down and build it back up from scratch.

TNT only have themselves to blame for the lack of revenue.
by curtiswright on March 14, 2025 5:42 PM NST
I definitely think the "if you don't buy this stuff, Neopets will shut down" replies are a little much. But I also don't believe any company deserves to survive simply due to legacy. Especially when they're not doing anything to grow said legacy.

Like, the trading card game. Why not introduce the new Neopet through that? And if you get their card, you get a code to adopt it!

I've given this company hundreds of dollars over the last 20+ years for virtual and physical products. Not once have I ever felt like my hard-earned cash was being respected by this company, regardless of whoever owns the site at any given moment.

Why? The money didn't go towards fixing the website. It's not just a few "bugs". The entire backend is outdated - it's collapsing in on itself in slow-motion. Not to mention they're relying on a third-party Adobe Flash emulator to run their games, rather than convert them. Also, customer support has somewhat improved, but not by much.

Neopets is like any other video game, or product/service. Don't expect people to pay for a defective product with a smile on their face.

I just tried to pre-order a monopoly - only to discover it was going to cost me £118 GBP - they were charging more for the postage than the game itself, assume it's because it didn't recognise our UK Postcode and keeps red flagging it! May have to arrange to buy it by Proxy and get it shipped here that way!
by cabbil_bane on March 14, 2025 8:18 PM NST
I think promotions like this are fine, many sites run stuff like this all the time. I imagine they'll show it to potential investors as a "look, our brand is growing and is healthy" metric, which is why I think there's less rewards for existing players. Is it fair? eh. it's a growth hack, it doesn't really have anything to do with rewards as Dom sees it. I have more beef with a $70 game of monopoly imho
by purrmeister on March 14, 2025 8:38 PM NST
Um, Faerie Fragments isn't designed to work on Bluestacks... Just as not all games work with the Ruffle emulator, not all apps work with the Bluestacks emulator. Cheap android phones that WILL run it are incredibly easy to come by though...

Has this launched yet? Anybody have a link to the progress page? I can't find the progress info on the quest page nor on the premium portal. No matter what, it seems this community will always be negative. These are just small site items, if you don’t want to pay real money then don’t. I think the TNT team are doing great with the site so far, it’s nice to play site games again and earn items I couldn’t imagine owning over a decade before.

by stuffie on March 14, 2025 10:39 PM NST
i'm confused that people see this as desperate money begging- if anything, the opposite. people are clearly paying up for perks. TNT sees this and are responding accordingly with more for us to spend money on. neopets is most of my entertainment budget so i am more than happy to keep buying! premium alone has gotten so many improvements since i signed up last year.

Calling these quests is a bit of a stretch.

I buy NC anyway so that will be a box or two ticked.

As for the rest...shrug...

5 Suaps. Wow. Is that incentive?
by faellie_ridiculous on March 15, 2025 2:51 AM NST
People are taking the P2W aspect too lightly.

TNT aren't making enough money off premium members even with all the perks they've added over the last 18 months, this little stunt isn't going to put them in the green either.

BECAUSE THE PROBLEM ISN'T THE SITES PROFITS, ITS THE SITES RUNNING COST.

It's becoming increasingly clearer to TNT that they're better off to cater to those who will fork out hundreds of dollars each year and cut server costs, rather than keep 30k+ free users around and consistently sit in the red, because as you all keep saying, "Neopets is a business".

The writings been on the wall for the last two years especially and it will only get clearer as time passes. The next step will be increasing the cost of NC, then the cost of your premium subscription - either people buy into it and the site will eventually become fully Pay-to-Play, or they'll give up supporting the site and they shut down the servers.

by malaphur on March 15, 2025 4:15 AM NST
I don't understand why people are SO MAD about having paying options for rare items.

TBH some of the complaints feel like people are just mad they can't inflate items anymore for neopoints bc TNT is making the in game items more accessible for people willing to pay.

Especially considering even with everything else going on, the site still operates at a net loss. Like, what is everyone expecting? For the game to not change in 25 years despite the WORLD changing over the last 25 years? Like the cost of living is sky high and they have to pay their employees fairly or we just don't have a site. That's just how being a company works.
by miss__lupey__ on March 15, 2025 6:44 AM NST
It's on old TNT/Viacom/whomever for not adjusting the game when they should have. Instead, we have a decayed spaghetti code site that is throwing some hail marys. It's not going to work in the end.

I'm not going to burn out my new phone on that game, either, since I don't really want to play it. Don't think my old phone was even capable of running it. Certainly not going to buy another device for it.
by infernodragon02 on March 15, 2025 6:56 AM NST
How is that P2W when all those prizes are buyable? Some people here are overreacting, honestly.

Just to clarify, SuAP doesn't count because it'll be randomly awarded to 10 people only. That's not much at all...
by nikasu on March 15, 2025 7:01 AM NST

Only 5 SuAPs will be given to premium members. The other 5 will be given to people who play Faerie Fragments, which is... free.

by androponix on March 15, 2025 8:39 AM NST
I don't understand why the reactions here are so overwhelmingly negative - this reminds me of the old burger king and limited too tie-in promos back in the day. Yeah, all advertising is annoying but this is pretty unobtrusive. You buy a physical item, you get a lil digital item. Nothing about this feels PTW - in fact these prizes honestly seem pretty lackluster to a long-term player. I feel like it's a reasonable balance of offering a tiny perk for perhaps spending money on a site you enjoy playing. I know we all get a little FOMO sometimes, but this seems like so little to get under your skin, so some folks are getting a stamp valued at 500K because they get some neocash? So what?
by verdego on March 15, 2025 10:04 AM NST
I think the avatar itself is the thing that makes people most upset (for me anyway, it takes me one step further from ever getting the avatar avatar).
The stamps hurt too because of the similar reason, but at least these are mostly re-releases / even if they are new, people can theoretically buy them using neopoints instead of real life currency (even if they will probably be extremely overpriced.

I think other non-stamp/non-avatar items can be nice and are good for collectors, but make the average person less upset (I think?)

But really I think the paid for avatars are the thing that upsets people the most. It makes me sad knowing that I'll never be able to have it since I cannot afford so much money for a game I have no real interested in anyway

(though I do understand that they do need to make money somehow)

by smoogilicious on March 15, 2025 10:19 AM NST
@biediep - Submit a ticket. I had the same issue and it was fixed and I had my avatar within a day or so.

The problem TNT has with this offering is almost entirely a communications one. They should have framed this as 'Promotional Perks - for a limited time!' rather than as quests, and they should have 'read the room' a bit and realized how skeezy it is to brag about an avatar blocked behind such a huge paywall. They are digging their own grave with this terrible communications strategy.

As for the Monopoly game, I don't think anyone really has to worry. I would be willing to bet the price of one of these overpriced collector's editions that they're going to do the same thing they did with the tarot deck. Offering an exceptional quality limited edition and then later offer a mass market version for a lower price.

When I bought the first version of the tarot deck I was a bit frustrated that they did a mass market version later, for cheaper, but in the end bought that edition as well because I wanted a version I could use/show without worrying about destroying. I guarantee you they're going to do the same thing with the Monopoly game. We'll get a version with pewter figures in a normal cardboard box in a few months.
by neolodgeism on March 15, 2025 11:12 AM NST
Re: the communications issue - this is my biggest complaint about TNT lately. Their communication snafus are so disruptive, are destroying brand loyalty and polarizing the community. Every time they make an announcement about something, players argue more and more viciously. Yeah, some of that is due to an apparent lack of restraint among some people, but I think TNT really stokes those divisions a lot with the choices they make and the way they approach communication around them.

They need to hire someone to handle their communications, it's getting worse.

okay okay okay my previous comment was about how the fighting amongst each other was silly but this is actually getting wild

the uh. several comments about how this is just how the world works now so of course things should be massively expensive. and how neopets has always had merch.

yall the limited too plushies were like 15 dollars, if that.

monopoly is an extremely ridiculous choice to massively overprice because it was invented as parody and then picked up by a company and taken seriously, and is joked about as a game that is commonly miserable by the end because you bankrupt your friends and family for hours.

staff has openly admitted that they were focusing heavily on premium over the plans that they listed for the main site, such as when they said that paid content was delaying void. like. that is The Problem with all of the releases for paid content. it's not that neopets has paid content, it's that it's taking precedence, and that staff has actually stated as such. most releases lately have been paid content, and heavily FOMO-bait and overpriced paid content.

there is nothing wrong with neopets making money. it's great for them to make money. but they are relying on FOMO and heavily overpricing merch.

some people Do Not Have Money.

it's not "getting with the times" for the internet to be paid only. there is just entertainment out there. it is very normal for there to be entertainment for people. there are these things IRL called libraries and parks. i'm pretty sure those still exist in most places. most of them still hold events, for free. it is normal for people to exist and meet up.

i'm sorry if you do not go to sites that have free entertainment but it genuinely is a normal thing.

paid entertainment is also a normal thing and great for a site to offer to pay its staff.

80 dollar monopoly is not actually normal and sounds like a parody.
by affluentia on March 15, 2025 12:54 PM NST
And part of the problem is that we had an actual site in the past. Now we have a flaming pile of rubbish because the long-term picture was neglected for short-term profit to begin with... there are so few features as is that things like avatars and stamps become all the more salient when they are offered off-site or through one of the increasing methods of direct monetization... we did not have the NC Mall, which has become the defining feature of the site.

All of this comes with the caveat that these means of monetization, while appealing to nostalgia, also don't suggest how the site is going to survive long-term. On top of this, they're repeating the same old mistake of requiring people to go off-site for limited items... while the bots are still a major problem.

Anyway, yeah, the Monopoly set reads like a parody and giving away coveted items (SuAP, given its history?) is never a good look. While monetization is the unfortunate norm... it's also not something one has to accept, and compare this site to a game like Marvel Rivals or whatever else. One is a tiny fragment of what it used to be and the other has an accessible base product. So how will they make something that people want to play instead of feeling obligated to play?
by infernodragon02 on March 15, 2025 1:38 PM NST
Going to second what someone else said upthread—this is so clearly them trying to get the most money out of the Neopets brand IP before shutting the site down. They're not even hiding it. Like, they shower us with nostalgic big-ticket items for a couple events in 2023 (Faerie Festival prizes, Advent) and then they're like, "Want more? Now you gotta pay for it all!"

It's just not sustainable in the longterm. You'll have your people who will buy everything, but that's an extreme minority and when they fall off, they fall off hard.
by khaytra on March 15, 2025 4:04 PM NST
I was going to buy $5 on a side account to spend on an extra pet slot. It sounds as if I should wait until after this promo is over, so there's no danger of being frozen for an action that could result in earning an NP item with a side account. I am not sure just deleting the email with the code to redeem the prizes without claiming them will be sufficient to protect my side account from the danger of freezing.
by oldawning on March 15, 2025 5:08 PM NST
So where are these supposed quests? Did they not start yet?
by kingnerdo on March 15, 2025 5:24 PM NST
The explanation as to how to take part is not too clear - could we not have a page where we can see which tasks we have completed, not have to hope that the Neopet's system has recognised we have done a qualifying task and will reward us at the end?

Some of us will not be able to complete the requirement for the final draw because of the Monopoly mess on the first day - when international buyers were being charged a ridiculously high postage rate, but even if you bit the bullet and accepted this the system refused to accept our home addresses. Going back the next morning and the time lag and glitchyness on Neopets meant I could not connect and later in the day all the Monopolies had sold out - so no chance!
by cabbil_bane on March 15, 2025 6:10 PM NST
@khaytra definitely feels like it... A desperate final move to gather some money for the next "project". After the crypto attempt, maybe something about generative AI? Wouldn't be surprised if that's right.

by androponix on March 15, 2025 9:34 PM NST
To make it really clear for those who are confused: THERE ARE NO QUESTS, NOR WILL THERE BE. All the 'tasks' are listed above in this post. That's all this is. TNT calling it 'quests' has been very confusing and terribly communicated. This isn't a quest event. It's more like those promo events we used to do on that third party site, where we'd have to like something on Twitter and Facebook, etc. to get entries to a draw.

That's all this is. You've probably already done most of what's listed.
by neolodgeism on March 15, 2025 10:35 PM NST

by daydreaming_with_you on March 15, 2025 10:36 PM NST
The part I don't understand at all is why is the monopoly limited to 2000 people when clearly so many want it for the stamp and avatar? If it's money they want, why not make it unlimited to preorder? Or at least have the limit much much higher. This is just like with the anniveresary plushies or the birthday bash... They have far more players willing to buy than they are willing to sell. What kind of business model is that?
Sure, I understand they are trying to keep it exclusive, but it will be anyway because it's only sold for one month. Is that not exclusive enough? How can they limit an item to 2000 when they have a player base of heaven knows how many thousands?
If an item sells out in less than 24h, evidently they made too few...

So what I'm reading is that there is generally no benefit to being an early adopter to site changes, such as Neopass or pay-to-play features (like Premium) because eventually, TNT will give you free stuff for participating anyway.
by 1776 on March 16, 2025 6:49 AM NST
@neolodgeism: That answers everything. Thanks!
by jessalynn on March 16, 2025 7:29 AM NST
I understand they need money, but don't advertise an "event" when it is just a scream for money.

I wonder what TNT's strategy is, because it doesn't seem like they are trying to attract new users and instead try to get all income from the 100 users still playing Neopets? They need to build a new-user quest log that actually introduces most aspects of Neo (including a story, can be user-written) and use John Legend or WHATEVER to generate some traction here.
by rochwuk on March 16, 2025 8:29 AM NST
@godzilla1 - I think this is just the early release limited edition to build hype and gauge interest. Given how quickly it sold out at that price point, I think they're going to release it in a mass market retail version after this, which will have regular figures and a cardboard box, which anyone can buy. It will be on Amazon and all the regular places, just like the mass market version of the tarot deck. I doubt it will come with an avatar, though. Not sure how they're going to dig themselves out of that avatar hole, frankly.

I wouldn't be surprised if this is just going to be their limited edition merch avatar moving forward, and get tacked onto other limited edition item releases.
by neolodgeism on March 16, 2025 11:23 AM NST
I was coming to see if anyone had concerns about neopass and the push for it, implying it will eventually become the norm despite the system having some issues (that I might as well not be aware bein already addressed) or if anyone else had hopes like me that this meant we are getting the missing 25th anniversary pets in the rainbow pool.

But this... Please don't ever play PVP gacha games, TNT isn't being predatory at all. I am actually surprised the site didn't invest in more ways to make profit with past administrations despite it having big companies behind.

Yeah, I get is kind of lame to be excluded in stuff but... Is not the end of the world, and pretty sure most oof us never had a SuAP to begin with, so they didn't took anything from us.

But I do hope the smuggler cove gets more active, similar to the almost abandoned atttic.
by cabbageoil on March 16, 2025 12:24 PM NST
PvP gacha games are considered predatory enough that they cannot be listed in certain countries. I am not sure why you are using them as an example when using their methods would potentially bar sales overseas?

Not that TNT is even listing shipping overseas for many of their merch opportunities but I kind of think they would hate to lose out on sales By Law by being so extreme.
by affluentia on March 16, 2025 2:08 PM NST
Been on this site for 25 years. One of the oldest accounts—— Neo is a business, and they have to find ways to make revenue to continue to operate. If they are selling merch, monopoly games, etc. and people want to pay for it, it’s about time! You have the option to NOT pay for anything and still enjoy the site. Pony up for the perks or stop complaining. Nobody is forcing you to do anything.
by neopets9738368 on March 16, 2025 5:48 PM NST
^ this

@affluentia - because people right now are complaining like if something incredibly unfair has happened. With the pvp gacha being a prime example of how neo isn't even close to that environment, simple as that.
by cabbageoil on March 16, 2025 9:36 PM NST
Cabbageoil - They actually just released an article about NeoPass. It just got overshadowed by all the other articles from 3/14, but I think there's no need to resistant to it now. https://portal.neopets.com/news/mar14-neopass-update

Neopets9738368/Cabbageoil - People are getting frustrated that TNT keeps saying they can't afford to fix the site, but they come out with incentive after incentive to get us to subscribe to Premium (can't do so twice) or pay for other things that have nothing to do with the site other than paying for NP/item rewards. Most people are okay with the ones that are already readily available, but the Monopoly game comes with an exclusive stamp and avatar that are part of a trend of paid collectibles. They're driving people away, and they're not getting accurate information about WHY people are buying the merch.
by maivry on March 17, 2025 8:56 AM NST
That post is full of stuff - much of it indecipherable for me - that I have no idea if there is anything in it for me as a non-Premium player. So I shall simply ignore it as I have to do with so many of the posts. by rosamooooo on March 17, 2025 10:03 AM NST
@rosamooooo: If you read the list at the end of our post, we break it down to a much simpler level--if you want to participate without paying anything, download and play Faerie Fragments, and you'll end up with a Faerie Paint Brush!
by dave on March 17, 2025 10:14 AM NST JN Staff
@maivry - I get the avy and stamp part, but still I belive this is just an exaggeration... because let's be honest - plush, food and books aren't going to incentivise people to buy IRL merch this much nowadays as a bonus. And yes TNT is trying to make the IRL merch as attractive as it can not only to physical collectors but also digital ones (who may not be interested in the physical stuff) because they truly need the money.

So as much as stamps and avys behinf real life merch may suck... but I dare to say that those are desperate moves that I can understand.

Also, well, premium getting more perks is something everyone asked so... not truly sure what the issue is here given that I don't feel those are unfair.

I see a lot of animosity towards this whole thing and I have to say, I don't really get it? It would be one thing if any of this felt forced, but it's pretty tame compared to most campaigns like this. I've seen so many extremely scummy monitization practices in the games industry. This doesn't even come close to being gross or "pay-to-win" as some are calling it.

The website is running at a loss. The only thing giving them funding is merchandise, premium/NC purchases, and stuff like this. I'm more than happy to support them if it means that the website overall is able to stay the same and keep going. (Minus the Monopoly game being a biiit much for what it is.)

@raincatcher99: You just have to do them. There's no place on Neopets where you can see a green checkmark or progress status.

has anyone received any rewards from this event yet?

Haven't received anything yet @oukabee. Seems like they still have a few more days before the panic really sets in

I had quit playing Neopets for five years and started playing a game on my phone, well after spending hundreds of dollars just to have all my work obliterated I realized what a joke the game was. But I only spent a few hundred, there were others that were spending thousands per month on one stupid game! So no this doesn't bother me at all. Ya know we all gotta eat, and there is a pretty big group of people that love this game and well I'm still waiting for my pre-ordered Monopoly game, it's worth it for me, and no I'm not rich, but do love this game. I've been playing for 24 years!!

I miss the Adam & Donna days..... I wish they would take down games and features that are broken and will never be fixed. I have Wonderclaw tokens in my SDB & stuck in the game. Give me a refund and take back your tokens if you're not going to fix the game.
Not to mention some of the regular games that are whack. Eye of the Storm is broken. I can click on the same spot over and over a ship showed up on and win the game. That being said how does someone get scores in the tens of thousands and even over 100k for Eye of the Storm? Idk seems like a lot of different areas with broken or nonfunctional fearures items or games.
