Neopets Monopoly Preorder

UPDATE, MARCH 15, ~8:10 AM NST: The game has now sold out, approximately 25 hours after preorders opened!

According to the announcement, orders are refundable through April 15th, so if you were still hoping to get one there may be some intermittent limited availability between now and then.

UPDATE: Many of you may have noticed that international shipping costs were extremely high. TNT now appear to have disabled the ability to ship to many international destinations, and you'll get an error typing in those shipping addresses. As of around 5pm NST, it's available again! Carry on!

Today, Neopets has announced through the Neopets Portal (and on social media) that preorders for the Neopets Monopoly board game are now available through Neopets Shop. The preorder price is $69.95 and is limited to 2,000 total pieces, with a maximum of three per person.

Notably, the announcement also reveals that each game will come with a unique rare item code awarding an exclusive stamp and avatar. (Preordered games will also include a Super Bright Rainbow Pool Stamp, not pictured.)

Preorders are open through March 31, although have already filled up quickly this morning, so may not make it that long! If any are remaining on April 1, they will remain available, though at a $10 increase. Orders are currently expected to ship in June.

I've been so excited for this one, shame they are limited like the Jumbo Plushies.
by temptesque on March 14, 2025 9:06 AM NST
I'm SO annoyed they locked another stamp AND avatar behind a paywall.
And we're not talking 20 bucks here like the Upper Deck stuff.
With shipping, this would cost me 160 bucks!!!
by biediep on March 14, 2025 9:14 AM NST
Yeah that’s a no from me, man
by solarboyaaron on March 14, 2025 9:20 AM NST
I don't have the square footage to store physical merchandise, which makes it really frustrating that they keep locking all of these item codes behind huge bulky merch items. Also $70 is insane, can they partner with cheap stuff instead of these pricy collector brands?? I'm trying to buy groceries, not fill my house with polyester and cardboard
by purrmeister on March 14, 2025 9:23 AM NST
70~80 USD? that's nuts!
by spongegrundo on March 14, 2025 9:25 AM NST
The real annoying part is the useless merch codes we got from the 25th wheel all expired at the end of the year and can’t be used for this

"Stop putting collectibles behind paywalls".
Or just make the whole game pay to win at this point. =w=

Yeah not gonna lie… TNT pushing me away from this game more and more every day

Those game pieces hit me right in the impulse purchase... I hope these really do ship in June so I can ruin some friendships with it this summer!

Waaaay overpriced imo but couldn’t pass up a limited avatar and stamp. I bought one.
by mavix_ on March 14, 2025 10:05 AM NST
This one must feature platinum tokens and free donuts for a year.
I not secretly hope they can't get enough pre-orders
by roshchodesh on March 14, 2025 10:07 AM NST
No Canadian shipping? I put one in my cart but says cannot ship to Canada is that true? Only for US?
by tycooncorb on March 14, 2025 10:22 AM NST
$70 avatar and it's another square of a grumpy Skeith face?... The design on the stamp would have made a nicer avatar. What creative powerhouse is behind these newer avatars?
by remy on March 14, 2025 10:31 AM NST
Unable to purchase this in the UK.
by jimmycarlos on March 14, 2025 10:36 AM NST
Getting the same issue that it says it can't ship to Canada. I mean I did see that shipping was like $200 to Australia so maybe I won't be getting one. Over $100 Canadian just for the board game before factoring in shipping.
by xwhereswaldo on March 14, 2025 10:37 AM NST
Oof, a limited exclusive stamp and avatar on an expensive item that I don't want... not a fan of that.
by suzuka on March 14, 2025 10:41 AM NST JN Staff
So it’s a region locked stamp and avatar to boot. Not a great look

That's a pretty expensive price tag for Monolopy

Oh a new stamp! For 'Others' pages that never get finished! Woooo!
by shia on March 14, 2025 10:49 AM NST
Ignoring how hecka expensive this is, or how ridiculous it would be to ship this to anyplace that is not the US.. I just don't understand who chose this board layout.. Why isn't Darigan Citadel grouped up with Meridell and Brightvale? Why are kings Hagan and Skarl asking for money? Were there no better 'corporations' in Neopia that would have made more sense than that poorly drawn Vandagyre with his polluting obsidian company?

There are SO many ways this could have been so much better!
by apophis324 on March 14, 2025 11:07 AM NST
I echo all of you. Pay to win, yes. VERY sad I cannot qualify for this extremely pricey item. Haves and have nots. Always a thing with Neopets. And the international exclusions are pretty stupid. And very affronting to a faithful global playing audience.

by snowfallkahlan on March 14, 2025 11:37 AM NST
i do not get it ... why should i buy anything seeing the sad state neopets is in ? first make sure your main game is up to snuff and then merch/paywall the heck out of it and not the other way around
by scr3wdriver on March 14, 2025 11:59 AM NST
Hm. Good for them. Weird direction, but I'm glad they're trying lots of ways to get more money to keep the site going. Big partnerships are a good sign.

yeah shipping to europe is 100$... I don't think I'll order, thats insane! Just had something (similar size and weight) shipped and this shouldn't be more than 50$ for shipping.

They're making SuAP pay to play now? Ugh.
by morganjoisle on March 14, 2025 1:09 PM NST
REALLY not liking that the avatar is tied to the game, but I ordered it anyway because my family likes Monopoly and I can see us actually playing this.

It's freaking expensive for what it is, though.
by morganjoisle on March 14, 2025 1:25 PM NST
@nataliea Shipping to the US was about $8 for the cheapest option. $50 for shipping sounds outrageous. That sucks.
by morganjoisle on March 14, 2025 1:29 PM NST
Oh yeah, the Monopoly game. Alright, looks like what I expect, and those a pretty nice awards (though don't like how they keep having Stamps as exclusive rewards, I'm hoping in a year or so they'll allow them to appear on the Quest Log as a Weekly Prize). Don't play board games that much but I can buy it for the novelty, let me get my wallet and... SEVENTY DOLLARS!

Oh, sorry, I mean EIGHTY dollars, for March they're giving a $10 discount.

So, for comparison sake, using prizes on a well known online shopping site:

* Normal Monopoly: $20 (probably can find even cheaper)

* Monopoly MEGA edition: $40

* Other Special Editions: $25-$30

* Brand Crossovers: $30-$40 (Brands include Spongebob Squarepants, Wicked, House of Dragons, Hello Kitty, Family Guy, Supernatural, The Beatles, Guy Fieri, Peanuts, One Piece, Avatar: TLA, Godzilla, etc.)

* NOTE: This does not include Monopoly Jr./Mini (though if you're curious, normal Junior usually sells for like $15 with Junior/Mini Brand Crossovers going for $25-$30; Brands include Mario, Pokemon, Disney, Marvel, DC. Harry Potter, Bluey, Star Wars, CATerpillar, Dr. Seuss, D&D, etc.. If you're wondering what I mean my "Mini", it looks to be a special version of Monopoly that's the size of Junior but has special rules depending on the brand its based on)

And here we have Neopets charging DOUBLE the price of a normal brand crossover (and for the Mega edition of the basic game, aka a version which includes a lot more stuff than any other version). HUH? Why? $50 I would think would be the limit if you want to include the prize codes as part of the price (WHICH THEY SHOULDN'T; those would just be considered a bonus award to tie the product back to the website as it can't take that much to make these new items, especially when most of them are existing items).

So I guess I'm not getting it. Like $50 I already feel would be pushing it, higher than that and I'm afraid I gotta pass it up. Maybe I can find a

by beautiful_shad0w on March 14, 2025 4:42 PM NST
Legit, who in their right mind would pay $70 USD for a BOARD GAME??? You could buy premium with that - or just not buy stuff online and instead get groceries with that amount...

Neopets fanatic or not, these are the kinds of games that literally pop up in THRIFT STORES on a daily basis...Some do end up missing pieces, but that's besides the point.

TLDR:
Just imagine saying that you bought a board game for ~$70 USD...It's absurd.

100% agree with this, the design of the stamp actually (and cutely) relates to the Monopoly crossover and the avatar... does not. XD far too plain.

69.95 USD but after conversion rate, taxes, and shipping, it's a whopping 215 CAD, and that's without any possible duties I'd have to pay when it arrives. No thank you. I don't need the avatar and stamp that badly.

I really wanted the NeoMonopoly game; but food prices in the US r outrageous! I mean; i did not check the shipping ... but the game equals 9 cartons of eggs n wellllll ; i can not eat the game, no nutritional value.

In all the talk about the price, forget to take a closer look at the game itself.

* PROPERTIES: As expected, the properties are the Neopian Lands (as a reminder, Monopoly has 22 properties). We have the 19 lands on the Map page, Darigan Citadel, Dacardia, and New Faerieland (from Faerie Fragments). Alright, can't really complain, I do wonder if there was another choice instead of New Faerieland but then again I can also understand them wanting to promote their side apps especially after Luxinia's proper debut on the site.
I feel the way they're grouped a bit odd. For one thing I'd put DC with MD & BV; while I SORTA get why RI is with MD & BV thematically feels odd. If I were to do the land assignment:

- Brown: KL & RI (formerly considered mini-lands)
- Cyan: Lutari Island, Dacardia, & New Faerieland (off-site lands)
- Magenta: MI, KI, & MQ (Neoceania lands)
- Orange: TY, TM, & SK (most northern lands)
- Red: LD, HW, & Neopia Central (inner peninsula lands)
- Yellow: DC, BV, & MD (medieval lands)
- Green: MT, KD, & VP (high technology & space (MT has the portal to The Coincidence))
- Blue: AL & FL (most influential lands in-lore)

* NEXT POST: Other Spaces.

IT'S NEW FAERIELAND?! I miss old faerieland
by sailormoon on March 14, 2025 9:27 PM NST
* OTHER SPACES:
- Community Chest is Money Tree.

- Income Tax is King Skarl. Why not the Tax Beast?

- Railroads are various transportation vessels: Giant Walein, Krawk Island Boat, Cydrake's Gaze, and Virtupets Space Shuttle. Alright, though it's also a mix bag. Like the Giant Walein and Cyodrake's Gaze aren't public tranports but ones for specific groups; if they were going that right could've use The Black Pawkeet instead of a random pirate ship. I also realize the transports they picked mostly matched the land that they were next to. Had I known that I would have maybe organized my lands differently.

- Chance is Wheel of Excitement. Only way to have made it better would have been renaming the space "Wheel" and change two of them to Wheel of Knowledge and Wheel of Mediocrity. OR, rename it "Daily" and change two of them to Tombola and Fruit Machine.

- In Jail is same as normal Monopoly. Really? Couldn't think of anything for that space? How about "In Pound"?

- Electric Company & Water Works is Moltaran Obsidian Co. & Healing Springs. Hm, Moltaran Obsidian Co. feels appropriate enough, but the Healing Springs? I'll admit I can't think of a good parallel to the Water Works, so maybe just go with another "service provider" like the Faerieland Employment Agency. Or completely ditch the "business" aspect of these spaces and come up with an original pair of spaces; like how about "Games Room" and "Battledome", much more iconic.

- Free Space is same as normal Monopoly. The Soup Kitchen was RIGHT THERE! And, yes, I know, in many of these Monopoly brand crossovers they keep the corner spaces like in the normal version as a tradition (curious if that's actually a requirement, to still have some "Monopoly" in these brand crossovers; though I'd think the "GO" space would have been enough to do that). But still, it just feels like a missed opportunity.

- Go To Jail is ther same as normal Monopoly. To match with my sug

- Go To Jail is ther same as normal Monopoly. To match with my suggestion, could have been either Dr. Death, Judge Hog, or the Chia Police and say "Go To The Pound".

- Luxury Tax is King Hagan? WHAT?! Why King Hagan? "Well to go with King Skarl". I already pointed out King Skarl should have been replaced with the Tax Beast. King Skarl (or rather the Marrow Tax) would make more sense here. Or the Angry Tax Beast. Or Dr. Sloth's Invasion Tax.

by zenopeltis on March 14, 2025 10:05 PM NST
* TOKENS: Just six tokens of Neopets species: Acara, Aisha, Kacheek, Kougra, Shoyru, and Uni. While at first seemingly random, I think I know the reason for most of them. First off, being the 25th Anniversary, the three main Neopets they chose to represent it was the Acara, Aisha, and Kougra, so that explains them. The Shoyru and Kacheek are the first and second most popular Neopet (third being Kougra), so we have them. But the Uni is a bit of a mystery. 4th and 5th most popular is the Lupe and Xweetok, followed by Uni as the 6th. If they skipped Lupe because they wanted a more feminine Neopet it's odd they'd skip the Xweetok. And the Uni is a mammal quadruped like the Lupe and Xweetok so don't know why they didn't skip it for say the Eyrie or Jubjub which are 7th and 8th most popular. And I don't think this has to do when these species were introduced onto the site.
Also it feels odd to do Neopets species instead of popular items. They've tried staying close to classic Monopoly with the board spaces, why change things up now? Could have done a Codestone, Dubloon, Omelette, Negg, Paint Brush, and the generic Faerie symbol (maybe also throw in the Virtupets symbol and the Neopet Star to bring it up to a nice 8 tokens).

* MONEY: I like the bank notes has the Bank Manager Skeith on it and NP coins. But why is the money symbol still the Monopoly "M"? Shouldn't they have changed it to "NP"? Is this another thing they're required to keep for Monopoly tradition?

* HOUSES/HOTELS: Replaced with NeoHomes and the NeoLodge, perfect.

* OVERALL IMPRESSION: I was hoping maybe looking through what it contained would explain the inflated price tag, but all I'm seeing is just a Neopets re-skin of Monopoly. And no, it coming in a tin box doesn't matter, a few of the other brand crossovers I mentioned above also came in a tin box and at most they were $40. Anyway, for a Monopoly version of Neopets its fine; it's what you would expect. Obviously I would have done some th
by pikachu315111 on March 14, 2025 10:27 PM NST
Obviously I would have done some things differently, but either they were restricted by what Hasbro would allow or/and they're were more focused on just getting a Monopoly version out than making it something more special (I'm trying to avoid the word "cash grab", but I am finding that difficult due to the price and how the page feels like it's trying to prey upon FOMO which turns me away).

@sailormoon: I mean (normal) Faerieland is a Blue space so there's that.

I was under the impression the new team was making efforts to including non US players when it comes to merch... Guess not. I'm disappointed, but not surprised, neopets has never catered to players outside the US and I highly doubt they'll start doing it at this point, it's a losing battle.

Like I said in the quest post, I wouldn't worry - this is just the limited edition fancy version. Much like they did with the tarot deck, I fully expect we'll get a more reasonably priced normal edition with pewter figures in a cardboard box soon enough.
by neolodgeism on March 15, 2025 12:35 PM NST
$70 is way to much! I spent half of that on the Care Bears, Animal Crossing and Skylanders exclusive Monopoly sets. The most expensive was the Care Bear on from a board game shop at The Mall Of America and even then it was only $40! The other two where $25 from Walmart and Toys R Us.
by hugsandtugsbear2 on March 15, 2025 6:06 PM NST
A lot of board games are very expensive, but those tend to be specialized games that have a lot of really elaborate pieces. Gamers consider this worthwhile expense. If you're not into board games, you won't buy games at that price.

Having said that, this is a limited edition. It's meant to be a collectible. I'm sure the inevitable mass market release of the game will be much more reasonably priced.
by neolodgeism on March 16, 2025 11:16 AM NST
How much of it is Neo though and How much of it is Hasbro? It's not like Animal crossing or Mario who have had a big fan base for years. Shipping and price could be a lot of Hasbro wanting to make sure they aren't losing money on a more niche set.
by blastoise87blue on March 17, 2025 10:21 AM NST
Bummed about this fun collector's item. I had one in my cart, but shipping to my home location would have been $120 so I hesitated lol ...Now it's sold out.
